Two of the most picturesque towns in California are Monterey and Carmel by the Sea.
Monterey has a unique rocky shore line creating large crashing waves allowing for amazing photos. The downtown area is also fun with plenty of shops, great restaurants and beautiful parks near the bay where all the boats are docked. We didn’t go this time but I highly recommend the 17 mile drive if you haven’t been, it is along the world renowned Pebble Beach golf course and includes a view of the famous Lone Cypress. The most photographed tree in the world.
This trip Miss Reagan and I had some adventure time climbing the rocks and exploring the tide pools off the side of the road.
So the nice thing about a road trip that isn’t all planned out are the unique stops you can make along the way. Noticing a beautiful rusted train bridge I took the next exit to see if I could get close enough to photograph it. The bridge over the Salinas River has a gate that was open so I was able to venture onto the bridge and capture some intriguing dimensional shots with the River in the background. This was one of my favorite moments of the trip because it was such an memorable experience. Even if it was a little scary.
Carmel by the Sea is a quaint town with quality art galleries, shopping and restaurants. I spent Thanksgiving here two years ago with my parents and they loved it. Having done a little research I found a highly recommended dog beach.
I packed our dinner in my backpack, grabbed my camera and we headed to play with other dogs at the beach. I’m not quite sure what I was thinking when I brought our dinner to the “dog” beach. All the dogs would come and smell my bag. This was Miss Reagan’s first dog beach and overall I couldn’t tell if she was playing with the other dogs or being protective of me. Either way it was adorable and the sunset was perfect. We ended up eating our dinner in the car and enjoyed the afterglow as it faded into night.
